West Midlands Funders Network in partnership with members the Heart of England Community Foundation, Birmingham City Council, BBC Children in Need and the National Lottery Community Fund organised an online funding workshop for small constituted groups operating in the East & Central Birmingham Area (Nechells, Washwood Heath, Ward End, Hodge Hill, Shard End, Sparkbrook, Sparkhill) on the 10th February.
This was an opportunity to find out more from three key funders in the region and explore some of the opportunities, barriers and challenges to successfully accessing grant funding. The presentations are below and a link to an edited recording of the workshop can be found here.
Over 70 groups booked to attend and 50 participated. Cllr Sharon Thompson, Birmingham City Council provided a welcome and Birmingham Community Matters and Get Grants provided information about organisational development and fundraising training available for small groups. The opportunity to connect with three key funders in the region was welcomed by the groups that attended. Questions on eligibility and track record of groups were raised in discussion. It was noted that sometimes groups has been advised to set up as one legal structure that was inappropriate to meet their purpose and activities.
